Five Tips For Keeping Your 2019 Resolutions
Tuesday, December 18th, 2018
You ate, drank, and were merry. The new year is here, you’re making big changes for 2019, and we’re here to help. Read on for some quick tips on crushing your New Year’s resolutions!
Take one goal at a time
It’s awesome that you’ve got crazy big goals, but be realistic about things, too. If you try to take on too many lifestyle changes at once, you’re not setting yourself up for success. Start small and be specific. For example, I want to lose 25 pounds by July. It’s clear, can be tracked and measured, and has a specific end date.
Plan it out
You’ve selected your goal, and now it’s time to create your roadmap charting how you’re going to achieve it. Set up micro goals, milestones, that will help you maintain consistency. If losing weight is a resolution, plan to lose one pound per week (or more, check with your doctor prior to any weight loss/exercise plan), and map out how you intend to do that on a daily or weekly basis. Calendar reminders also help, because they help you prioritize your time and establish positive routines!
Don’t be a lone wolf
Resolutions are easier (and more fun!) to keep when you’re not going it alone. Partner up with a friend who’s made a similar resolution. If you can’t find anyone else up for completing that Iron Man race this year, find other like-minded folks on Meetup or a local Facebook group. Doing it with others keeps you accountable, plus misery loves company, amirite?
Be flexible
Life happens – stress at work, unexpected travel, juggling kids’ activities, home improvement projects. Don’t let a change in routine get you down. Roll with it, make modifications to your plan, and adjust as needed.
Give yourself some grace
You can’t do it all and be it all, all of the time. Some days aren’t going to feel great, especially in the beginning as you establish new routines. Be kind to yourself when things don’t go as planned. We all mess up; mistakes are part of the growth process. Learn from them and move forward!
Cheers to a fabulous and successful 2019!
