10 Ways To Stick To Your Goals

Friday, January 8th, 2021

Happy 2021, Whitney Ranch! We are so excited for another year of spreading the Whitney Ranch community love we all know so well. And this year, we want to help you stick to your goals. Creating goals is one thing, but sticking to them until December 2021 and beyond can be the bigger challenge. Here are 10 tips for sticking to your goals and seeing them through to the end.

pack your christmas decorations away, get out your notebook and make a list

Strategize

To start the process, map out your goals. Are they personal goals, family goals, business goals, or other? Next, prioritize them. Be realistic with yourself and ask which ones can be done sooner versus later. Think of deadlines if you are a deadline person, or ask yourself if they will be ongoing for the entire year and beyond. Once you think them through, you’re ready to put the game plan into action.

Put Goals in Sight… Literally

Now that you have strategized, put your goals literally in your sight! Purchase a few mirror markers and write them on your bathroom mirror. Put them on the inside of your front door so you catch a glimpse on your way out the door. Force yourself to see them more, and the daily acknowledgment might be what subconsciously sets your goals in motion. Try it out and let us know which method you use to put your goals in sight.

use your favorite task or notepad app to se reminders for yourself when you are on the go

Set Reminders

Phones now come with reminders built-in. Ask Siri, “Hey Siri, remind me to meditate tomorrow morning.” Small pings on our phones can be the smallest way to keep us on track and ready to conquer the day.

for your acheivements, reward yourself with incentives

Create Incentives

It’s the age-old trick. “If you eat all your green beans, you can have dessert.” Who remembers that line? Creating small incentives for yourself when you hit milestones might just work for you. Did you stick to your diet? Go grab some dairy-free ice cream! Have you lowered your spending? Treat yourself to one new shirt. It can be as small as a bath and candles at the end of the day to incentivize your goals and keep you on track.

Talk It Out

Verbalizing your goals is the first step to holding yourself accountable. Thoughts and goals live in our heads, but it might not be until we talk them out with a friend, family member, or therapist that they become a reality in our own world. Then, we can start seeing the roadmap for success in each of our goals. Talk it out with someone, you won’t regret it.

Try New Apps

Now it is easier than ever to download new apps for improving your lifestyle. Our phones have the power to keep track of the tasks we might have never paid enough attention to like our sleep schedule or our nutrition and water intake. Some other ones you might consider downloading are reminder apps that will send you notifications throughout the day about personal or work-related tasks you won’t want to forget about. Lastly, we could all use a bit more organizing in our lives which is why we recommend downloading apps that will help you organize your photos into specific albums, keep track of your passwords, or even categorize your bill payments! It was the old iPhone tagline…but it seems to reign true… ”There’s an app for that!” Start searching the app store for whatever your goal is and good luck. Technology is on our side!

get your accountabilli-buddy and go for a bike ride along the countryside

‍ Invite a Buddy

We like to use the term “accountabili-buddy” which is a person you can rely on to hold you accountable when sticking to your goals. For example, say your goal for the month is to go on a bike ride three times a week. Since it’s easy to lose track of time on your own, having an accountabili-buddy will be a great reminder to achieve your goal every time the two of you coordinate on time and place for the bike ride and you both can even make a day out of it if you decide to visit a new spot and grab some food afterward. Not only does this make the experience more exciting, it also makes it less likely for you to give up on your goal since there is someone else relying on you. Having that person can make all the difference in achieving your goals in 2021, so start calling your buddies!

‍♂️ Don’t Fear Failure

We all do it, but don’t fear the unknown and don’t fear failure. If you have a hiccup in your process, view this as a step forward! Most of the time, these hiccups remind us of what is important, what not to do, or what to change…and that is progress! Take a running start and launch yourself unapologetically into your goals! It’s go time.

Visualize

Imagine a beam of light between you and your ideal self. A lot of the time, the blocks preventing you from sticking to your goals are mental. There is no physical barrier between you and your 2021 goals, just a mindset that is stopping you. So in whatever goals you choose to set for yourself this year, make sure to manifest in your abilities by visualizing yourself achieving them. The combination of a positive mindset and visualization is that beam of light you need which is indestructible and gleaming. It is shooting upward and you’re on your way to success!

⬇️ Start TODAY

No more “starting tomorrow.” If your goal is to see more of your neighborhood, go on a walk this evening. Plan a picnic with the family. Get in the car and take a drive. The “start today” mentality will help you realize that things are achievable when we stop saying that today isn’t the day. Start today!

We hope this gives you a good start to sticking with your 2021 goals. Whatever they may be, push forward with optimism and assurance! We believe in you, Whitney Ranch. Let’s take back our year.
