Shift Gears to Summer
Monday, May 24th, 2021
With summer on the horizon, it’s the perfect time to take advantage of the warm weather and enjoy some fun outdoor activities. If you’re an avid biker, you might already know that May is National Bike Month! It’s the perfect excuse to get out there and pedal to your heart’s content. Luckily, Whitey Ranch and the surrounding Rocklin area are excellent spots if you’re in the mood to ride through some gorgeous natural settings. Whether you’re trying out your wheels for the first time, or if biking has been your preferred way of travel for years, there are great places in our community for every level of biker.
Beginning Bikers
Whitney Ranch’s handful of sunny parks are the perfect spot for your little one to test out their training wheels. These lush landscapes are removed from any street traffic, making them safe spaces for learning the ins and outs of staying upright and braking. In addition, their airy, open layouts make it easy to keep an eye on your kids. Plus, the soft covering of grass allows for an easy tumble, just in case things get a little wobbly. To keep everything safe and stylish, here’s a great list of cycling helmets for children that are perfect for protecting little noggins. If you’re looking for a great way to help your child learn the best biking practices so that they’re ready to ride around Whitney Ranch, we encourage you to check out The City of Rocklin’s Cycling Skills Club for 5- to 12-year olds.
Community Bike Paths
More experienced bikers will love Whitney Ranch’s miles of community bike trails. The convenience of these nearby paths will make you want to head out on your bike and feel the breeze on your face every day of summer. We don’t blame you if the thought of riding on-street bike lanes makes you feel a bit uneasy, which is why we developed these community paths to be separate from any car traffic. That way, you can focus on feeling at ease as you drift around Whitney Ranch on a warm day. Since we have quite the bike-loving community, don’t be surprised if you end up making some pedal pals along the way!
Rocklin & Roseville Trails
If you’re looking for a longer biking excursion, Rocklin and the bordering city of Roseville have plenty of nearby trails that are excellent for working out on your wheels. A few of the closest trails to Whitney Ranch are Dry Creek Greenway, Pleasant Grove Creek Trail, and Miners Ravine Trail. The paths are 0.7 mi, 3.8 mi, and 7.5 mi respectively, and offer a nice variety of ride lengths so that you can add the perfect amount of cycling to your day. To discover even more trails in the area, head over to TrailLink! Since solo riding is not everyone’s style, the Meetup app/website has an extensive list of cycling groups in Rocklin to help you make new biking buddies.
