When you need a break from the everyday grind, get outside! We’re so fortunate that our region of Northern California is an outdoor-lover’s playground, with an impressive number of opportunities for recreation minutes away from Rocklin. Here’s a roundup of some of our favorites!
Folsom Lake Recreation Area
: CA Dept. Parks and Recreation
This popular rec area located at the base of the Sierra Foothills is an outdoor wonderland, with hiking, biking, running, camping, picnicking, and horseback riding opportunities. Water sports lovers will enjoy waterskiing, boating, and fishing. Avid cyclists looking for a scenic workout can hop on the 32-mile trail that connects various Sacramento-area parks and the historic old town area. Visitor information HERE.
Whitney Ranch Trails and Parks

Hidden Falls Regional Park

Waterfalls are the main event at this scenic gem right in our own backyard! Visit during the week if you can, as the weekends are often very busy and require a parking reservation. Details HERE.
Johnson-Springview Park
What CAN’T you do at this beloved Rocklin park! There’s something for everyone, including baseball and soccer fields, tennis courts, playgrounds, a roller hockey rink, skate park, and more. Park info HERE. Some other great community parks are dinosaur-themed Olympus Park and Royer Park in Roseville.
Sunset Whitney Recreation Area
Great news! The west trails are opening on August 30, and they’re hosting a celebration at 6 p.m.! It’s a great time to discover and explore this lovely recreation area and all of the work that’s been completed based on community feedback. More HERE.
Quarry Park
Calling all adventurers! Quarry Park’s for thrill seekers and outdoor enthusiasts alike, offering a zip line, rock walls, high bridges and other aerial adventures, paddle boats, rappelling, a kids’ zone for younger children, and more. Plan your visit HERE.
Lincoln Fishery
Teach the kids to cast and more (and enjoy some fresh catch for yourselves!) at the Lincoln Fishery! They’re well stocked with catfish, bass, and bluegill all year long. Catch-and-release fishing is also available Monday through Thursday. Plan your visit HERE.
Auburn State Recreation Area
Make a day or long weekend of it at this beautiful natural area along the two forks of the American River. Show the kiddos how to pan for gold and enjoy camping, hiking, biking, and more. Park info HERE.
Eldorado National Forest
Get away from it all and go for a walk in the woods! Eldorado offers a number of campsites of various sizes and with a variety of amenities depending on how much you want to rough it in the wilderness. It’s also near the original gold discovery site in California. Park details HERE.
Whitney Oaks Golf Club
