It’s National S’mores Day on August 10th, and we can’t think of anything that says campfires and summertime more than this delicious gooey treat! The s’more was enjoyed by the scouts for years before it was first written about in a recipe book published by the Campfire Marshmallow company in the 1920s, and we’ve been obsessed with the American classic ever since. Check out all things s’mores below!
How to make a campfire s’more
If by some miracle of deprivation you’ve never enjoyed a s’more, we’re here to help you rectify that right now. Here’s how to make a proper campfire one:
What you’ll need:
Package of graham crackers
Hershey’s plain milk chocolate bars (must be milk chocolate so it melts quickly)
Bag of large marshmallows
Wood or metal skewers (we like these safer-for-kids extendable skewers HERE)
Campfire or bonfire
What to do:
- Break up a graham cracker sheet into two equal pieces, and do the same with the chocolate bar so it fits pretty evenly on the cracker
- Take one half of your graham cracker and place the piece of chocolate on top
- Pierce one marshmallow with a skewer and roast it over the fire until it’s nice and brown all over (no worries if it catches fire, just blow it out and keep on roasting a bit more)
- Now, here comes the fun part: Place the roasted marshmallow on top of the chocolate and graham cracker, add the second half of the graham cracker on top, and squeeze it all together while removing the skewer.
- And now the hard part: It won’t be easy, but you really should wait a couple of minutes so the chocolate melts a bit! It’s totally worth it!
