Games To Play On Turkey Day

Let’s be honest, family traditions are the best part of celebrating the holidays. Whether it’s baking grandma’s famous snicker doodle recipe, or gathering in the living room to watch It’s A Wonderful Life, childhood traditions give us those cozy, nostalgic feels.

Thanksgiving is going to be here before you know it, and if it’s your turn to host the big feast, you might need some reinforcements to keep the party going. Try incorporating some of these fun games before and after dinner this year!

Wild Turkey Hunt. After you watch the Thanksgiving Parade, rally the gang for this fast paced version of Hide and Seek. Choose a leader to draw or write the word “TURKEY” on a bunch of index cards. The leader will then hide all of the cards throughout the house. After they’re all hidden, everyone scatters to hunt for the turkeys. The person with the most turkeys becomes the next leader.

Thanksgiving Charades. During the week leading up to Thanksgiving, have everyone write out what they’re thankful for and place them in a jar. On Thanksgiving Day, turn the jar into a game of charades! End the game with everyone guessing who wrote what.

Guess Who. First, go searching for a bunch of old photos: find ones when your grandparents were toddlers and your parents were teenagers. Paste the photos on a board. Then, pass out sheets of paper for your guests to fill out and guess which picture belongs to which family member. This is a great way to reminisce about old times!

Shake Your Tail Feathers. This game will definitely bring the laughs! Place some craft feathers into an empty tissue box, then tape pantyhose (or some other kind of “rope”) on the box, and wrap the pantyhose around your waist. Make sure everyone’s tissue box is on their back. Whoever can shake the feathers out of their tissue box first, wins!

Face the Pie. Wish you could devour Thanksgiving dinner without using utensils? This game is for you! First, use gummy letters to place inside empty pie tins and create a simple word for the other team to unscramble. Next, fill the pie tins with whipped cream. Both teams have to eat through all of their pies to find the letters and solve their words!

Feast or Football. Why watch the game on TV when you can play this instead? Take some pots and pans and place them at different distances in the room. Decide what each pan is worth, then take turns trying to flick paper footballs into the pans. The team with the most points wins!

Have a fun-filled Thanksgiving!
