The holidays are all about being together with the ones you love and partaking in wonderful family traditions. With Thanksgiving coming up in a few days, we have 10 family traditions that you may just want to try this year! Check them out below!

  1. Family Table Cloth. This is such a fun activity to do with the family before you sit down for your glorious Thanksgiving feast! Get a plain white tablecloth and some fabric markers, then you and the kids can have a blast decorating! Use this tablecloth on your dining room table when you sit down to dive into the turkey.

  1. 27 Days of Gratitude. Get a cute chalkboard or whiteboard and hang it up somewhere in the house at the beginning of November. Everyday you can write something that you’re thankful for!

  1. Thanksgiving Pilgrim Cookies. If you want to start a new recipe to make every year, try baking Pilgrim Cookies! They’re cute, festive, easy, and super delicious! You can get the recipe HERE.

  1. 3 Things You're Thankful For. This is a very popular tradition, but if you haven’t done it before with your table of guests, try it this year! Everyone goes around the table and simple states three things that they are thankful for. It will bring laughs, joyous tears, and everyone’s hearts will be happy.

  1. Thank You Note. Spread some love and tell someone that has touched your heart this year how thankful you are to have them in your life. Nothing says thankful like a heartfelt thank you note!

  1. Dessert First. Wanna spice things up this year? Why not do something a little different and have dessert first before the main course! And don’t worry, if you’re still craving dessert after all the turkey and yams, you can still have an extra sliver of pumpkin pie.

  1. Guess Who! A fun tradition that will liven up the party is a fun guessing game, Thanksgiving style! Everyone writes down something that they’re thankful for and it all goes into a hat. During or after dinner, everyone guesses who said what! Laughs are sure to follow.

  1. Thankful Pumpkins. This is another fun, family activity to do every year. Buy a white, faux pumpkin and write what you’re thankful for all over it! Every family member can even have their own, and then you can place the pumpkins on your table for Thanksgiving dinner.

  1. Scavenger Hunt. Rally up the troops for a Thanksgiving themed scavenger hunt! You can use your own backyard, or go to a nearby park! This is a great way to burn off some of those calories after dinner!

  1. New Recipes. Every Thanksgiving, expand your horizons and try making a new dinner recipe you’ve never tried before! This will add some extra excitement to your menu every year!

From all of us at Whitney Ranch, may your Thanksgiving be filled with wonderful traditions, new and old, that you can enjoy with your family!
